Newsletter no. 3 2014 from KMCH Support Group
Hello, Tashi Delek and Namaste
The Photo exhibition at Café Mariaberget
As we mentioned in the previous newsletter, we had during the period April 29 and May 11 an exhibition of photos from Humla and from KMCHs activities at Café Maria Mariaberget. On May 8, the Café was open in the evening and we had the opportunity to inform about Humla and KMCH. There were not many we did not know before but we met some interested individuals and tied some contacts which we hope to maintain and extend. We got some new members and sold some of our KMCH-jewelry. We are very satisfied with the exhibition as both labor and information project.
We thank once again, Bibi and Johan for their commitment and for that we could borrow the walls of the restaurant. We recommend lunch, dinner or coffee in a pleasant environment. Now it's other works of art that adorn the restaurant's walls.
Cafe Mariaberget is located at Blecktornsgränd 4 on Södermalm in Stockholm. Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday. 11: 00-17: 00, Tuesday to Friday. 11: 00-18: 00 (Closed on Mondays.) See www.cafemariaberget.se
News from Humla
KMCH has now hired a teacher – I do not know his name - competent to teach up to grade 10. Naki, our other teacher who has been with us right from the start in Humla, is authorized to teach up to grade 8.
Generally KMCH has paid lower salaries than what is normally in Humla. In order to keep our nurse and to be able to recruit the new teacher, we have this year been forced to implement a general wage increase. The word – been forced to - is related to our economy, and the ability to pay and not to any notion that our employees shall work on a voluntary basis. We have made an effort and hope that together with the sponsors from other countries we will be able to maintain competitive salaries for our employees. Our teachers also work as teachers in the governmental school that our children attend, so they know very well the salaries that the other teachers get.
This spring and summer, two friends of Chembals from the United States will be in Humla and work as volunteers. A trained Carpenter will work with carpentry work on the school home and the other will help to build greenhouses in several villages in upper Humla. It would be good if we could establish contact with others who are interested to go to Yangar and work as volunteers for KMCH. KMCH Support Group has no experience of volunteers yet but recognizes the need to provide ourselves with this knowledge.
Chembal announces that our kids do well in school. It's something we often repeat it seems. However, we are glad to hear it every time because it shows that the business clearly provides one of the results we desire. The results, however, do not come without diligent studies morning, noon and evening. The kids know what they ought to do and are inspired by and supporting each other.
HIDDEN PARADISE ADVENTURE
This is the name of the travel agency in Nepal that Chembal plans to start, among other things to try to create jobs in Humla. The name Hidden Himalaya Adventure, as we said would be the name in our previous newsletter, was occupied so Chembal had to find another name and it became HIDDEN PARADISE ADVENTURE.
With the correct glasses maybe Himalaya and Paradise can be seen as synonymous. The fabled Shangri La is however said to be situated in the Himalayas somewhere. All inhabitants in the Himalayas may perhaps not always wear these glasses, but we recommend travels in these areas and then, of course, with the Hidden Paradise Adventure. We will return to this when we have more information.
The travel agent's first group will be the five men of the Board of KMCH Support Group and three members of the organization. We will be in Humla in early July. During our visit there it will be a big festival at the monastery in the village of Yalwang with dances by monks and villagers. Chembal says that they are expecting about 2,000 visitors. It will be interesting to witness even this part of the life of Humla.
We reiterate that the KMCH Support Group by the tax authorities has been approved to be “Approved gift recipient”. This means that gifts to us can qualify for the tax credit for tax payers in Sweden. See more about this in Newsletter No. 2 of 2014 or at our website www.kmchumla.se.
Membership in the Association
We would like to point out that anyone who paid SEK 100 for the year can become member of the organization. It is just to indicate this on the talon. We would like to see many who are interested to be members.
Greetings and wishes of a pleasant summer
